DUE TO THE HUGE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE THAT THE COLLAR WITHSTANDS, MOST
BOATS OVER 3.5m REQUIRE FIXINGS ON THE OUTSIDE
ALMOST EVERY BOAT IS DIFFERENT
External fixings (or plates) are the visible plates that are fitted onto the outside of the Collar. These plates add extra strength as they squeeze the Collar towards the boat and reinforce the foam. They're also needed if internal access is not available.
External fixings is what helps make Kapten Boat Collars so versatile, that they can be fitted to suit a wide range of different boats.
All the hardware you need, such as extra long drill bit series, are provided in your kit.
EXAMPLES: SIZES OF BOATS AND THEIR FIXINGS
2 External fixings per side, at seats.
These fixings have the long external screws go through the foam and anchor into the hull, where each seat is placed.
The screw heads are concealed under the seats, and nylon dome washers can be fitted for extra protection. These fixings don't need to be pre-drilled, so the hold is very tight on the screw.
PROVIDED: 4mm x 100mm x 150mm aluminium plates that are shaped, painted and countersunk with 150mm stainless steel bugle batten screws, hex head driver bit and nylon dome washers.
$12 + GST per fixing.
4 External fixings per side, evenly spaced.
If there's 1-2 bench seats, then 1-2 of the fixings go into the seats, as above, but for these biggerr/heavier boats, an internal plate is needed for the 150mm screw to pass through. If there's no bench seats, all external fixings will be anchored into the internal plates, with shorter 120mm bugle batten screws.
PROVIDED:
4mm x 100mm x 150mm aluminium plates (shaped, painted and countersunk), 150mm stainless steel bugle batten screws, hex head driver bit.
If you have bench seats, we'll also supply nylon dome washers and a 6.5mm extra long drill bit series for the guide hole through the internal plate.
For the other fixings we supply 5mm long series drill bit to pre-drill the internal plate. We also supply an extra screw to be used as a guide screw to start the thread on the fixing.
$12 + GST per fixing.
BOATS OVER 4.5M

External fixings spaced 600mm apart
Most boats over 4.5m have larger engines, venture further abroad and in rougher conditions and carry a heavier load - such as internal structures like forward windscreens and decks.
Therefore, we increase the amount of fixings to be approximately every 2nd internal plate, or every 600mm, starting from the transom end.
This even, continued pressure applied to the outside of the Collar, strengthens the foam a lot. Fixings are like the ones shown previously/above.
$12 + GST per fixing.
Stronger fixing option - BC Shields:
2.4m long BC Shields +single fixings
The BC Shield is an option for those who wish to protect their Collars from crab pots etc, but is also an alternative to flat bar (see below) on smaller boats as it encases the Collar and therefore strengthens it a lot.
BC Shields are made from 3mm pressed aluminium and include several stainless steel bugle batten screws per side.
For boats over 4.25m, a pair of 2.4m long BC Shields: $440 + GST.
1.2m long BC Shields +single fixings
For a smaller pair of BC Shields (below left) at 1.2m long: $275 + GST.
Spreader Plates - to act as 'big washers'
Spreader plates act as big washers on the BC Shields, and prevent the screw heads from pulling through the BC shield if tightened too much.
Plates are left bare alloy so they blend in to the BC Shields bare alloy surface.
$5 + GST each plate & screw.
3 per side is provided for 1.2m Shields,
5 per side is provided for 2.4m Shields, which allow for fixings at every 300-350mm apart.
FLAT BAR - FOR BIG, HEAVY BOATS
As flat bar can't bend and twist like the Collar can, it can only be used down the rear, straighter sides of the boat. Single external fixings are required at the bow. These are spaced and allocated to be fitted every 300mm.
Usually for boats around 5m, but used for all boats fitted with the Chemi-Weld system. The use of aluminium flat bar requires every internal plate/fixing position to have an external screw, so for a boat to have this many fixings, it is reserved for larger, heavier &/or faster travelling boats. So for a boat to have this many fixings, it is reserved for larger, heavier &/or faster travelling boats.
As Flat bar can't bend & twist upwards to match the Collars at the bow, individual fixing plates are required at the bow area, on both sides. The amount/number of fixings will depend on the size of the boat. We know what you need.

Flat bar; 6mm x 125mm + single/double fixings at bow
Flat bar offers greater strength and coverage for larger &/or heavier boats compared to single/individual plates as the pressure is more evenly distributed along the Collar.
Due to the weight of the flat bar, it is best reserved for heavier/larger boats who can handle the extra weight.
6mm x 125mm flat bar kit, starting at 3m long = $209 + GST for both sides.
Up to 3.5m long = $264 + GST.
Single external fixings; 6mm x 125mm x 150mm = $15ea + GST.

Flat bar; 6mm x 160mm + single fixings
The largest and strongest external fixing provided.
The 160mm high flat bar covers most of the 240mm face of the Collar, applying very large, even pressure distribution.
Due to the weight of this flat bar, it is reserved for larger tinnies.
Is required for EVERY boat fitted with the Chemi-Weld fitting method (see Fitting page for more info).
4m long x 6mm x 160mm flat bar kit = $340 + GST for both sides.
Matching Single hole external fixings = $20 ea + GST (not for Chemi-weld)
Matching Double hole external fixings = $25ea + GST (for all Chemi-Weld kits)

Both Flat Bar + BC Shield = max strength & protection
You can choose to have a BC shield as well as the Flat Bar, for maximum strength and protection in your workzone.
Chose between the 2.4m long Shields or the 1.2m long Shields.
The BC Shields are always installed under the flat bar.

TUFF-TEC FOAM IS TOUGH INDEED
The inner and outer harder layers help disperse the pressure applied to the Collar from the external fixings.
