We're offering Intellectual Property Licence Agreements, to several international locations, with the aim of taking the Kapten Boat Collars to new world regions, to increase boating safety world-wide!
Why buy an IP License for Kapten Boat Collars?
Unfortunately, we're unable to affordably ship the Collars around the world due to high shipping prices, but the enquiries keep coming! Which is why we need to establish outlets outside of Australia to meet the high demand from international boaties who are desperate for more stability and safer, offshore performance from their boats.
Our in-depth Research & Development saves you extensive time and a lot of money, as you can rest assured that the product you're investing in has been tried, tested and well-proven. There truly is nothing like it!
An initial fee is required per country/state/region, followed by royalty payments of 5% per Collar kit sold. Any revenue gained by installation isn't included in the royalty. At the bottom of this page, each area is discussed in more detail.
Boat Collars have been improving boat performance since 2010
About our Australian customers & business
Australian population v's number of boats that are registered
27,000,000 people have over 1,000,000 boats
Australia's population of almost 27 million people have over 1 million Registered boats, according to the BIA.
Almost 85% of these registered boats are under 6 metres long, which is prime Boat Collar size. Boats with an outboard less than 4hp, don't need to be registered, such as small tenders to yachts, so aren't even included in these numbers, that really need the Collars for added safety and stability.
Australian Business info & details as of May 2025
But wait - sales are about to improve a LOT!
Customers can now purchase easier with set-sized kits and packages - August 2025
As of August '25, we've created a new method of manufacturing the Collar kits, which makes selling and ordering the Collars a lot simpler for both us (the seller) and the customer. This will have a flow on effect for more profit and faster turn-over.
Instead of Collar kits being priced individually, and each Collar being custom ordered and assembled after ordering, we've now established 6 sized kits for the 3 Collar sizes, with a few set external fixing packages to choose from, based on popularity. Custom packages are still available though.
6 kit-sizes to choose from, with 2-4 external fixing options make purchasing super simple.

Kits can now be assembled and shaped ahead of time, and shipped in bulk to stockists.

What makes the Collar so special?
KBC won the Gold Tick Award in 2019
Kapten Boat Collar (KBC) won a prestigious Gold Tick Award at the Australian Good Design Awards held in Sydney, in 2019.
A panel of judges scrutinized hundreds of applicants & their inventions, but only a small handful won the Gold Tick. One of the winners was the Kapten Boat Collar.
Kapten Boat Collar was the only marine invention to win anything, and wowed the judges with its simplicity and drastic improvement to the performance & safety levels of the vessels they were fitted to.
The engineers praised & approved the fitting methods, and wished us all the best for the future.
All you need is a big shed & office!
Space is paramount as boats are big! So you need a big shed; enough to house:
- a minimum of 2 x big boats,
- a 12m/40ft long saw bench
- and at least 2 x 7m/23ft long work benches/tables for shaping and assembling the Collars and kits.
For efficiency perspective, from a 16mx25m shed (52ftx82ft shed) on half an acre (2000m2) we managed to install Collars to 5 boats a week, with 3 full-time workshop staff, who also manufactured the Collar parts and assembled other kits for shipping. Two office staff also worked full-time, taking orders etc, in their sound-proof office. That's a lot of work by 5 staff, but the office, big shed and large outdoor space made it comfortable and achievable.
Local sales will increase wherever you establish yourself, especially if you offer an installation/fitting service for the Collars.
We'll instruct you on how to cut, shape & assemble the variety of Collar kits, as well as how to install the Collars to different shaped boats, as there's many ways it can go wrong. We'll show you what shape you're looking for and how to get the best performance from the Collars, as understanding boat design and hydrodynamics is a big reason the Collars are so effective.

Fitting Collars is great additional revenue and a necessary service for many boaties who can't physically install the Collars themselves, or don't have the time or workspace.
To install a Collar, you need to keep the boat for 5-days, but it's only worked on for several hours overall.
As a guide; 2.5m-3.5m boats = 6-8hours, 3.5m-4.5m = 8-10hours, 4.5-5.5m = 10-11hours. We charge $100/hr+GST.
What's included with the Licences?
Your success is our goal!
TRAINING
Initial onsite training with us is provided, and it's highly recommended you complete the training before you set up your own equipment in your shed, as you'll see how the full process works, from cutting the foam sheets & shaping the Collars, to the assembling of the kits, and the full installation of the Collars.
One-week minimum training includes; fitting Collars to different shaped boats, so we can discuss all workshop aspects of the Collars, as well as going through the office side of things with you (and/or any business partners/family who come to learn, too).
CUSTOMERS
Our customers are extremely pleased with their Collars, and word of mouth has proven to be our best advertising.
Our Facebook pages have many followers from across the world, with the vast majority of international interest coming from USA and the South Pacific.
DOCUMENTS
All our documents & spreadsheets will be emailed to you after training, so you can use them, too, or you can edit them to suit your own sales process or appearance.
Documents available are: multiple in-depth PDF fitting instructions, detailed customer enquiry forms, fitting job-cards, hardware lists for kits, & more. These are helpful tools to get you started right away, and ensure customers get the same, correct information regarding installation. Though you may have to re-write them if your customers don't predominantly read in English.
OVERSEAS
Unfortunately, due to high shipping prices, we've limited international Collars to just New Zealand (closest). A major reason why we need overseas Licences/outlets!
We've already got dozens of Collars in USA & Canada, many in the South Pacific, UK, NZ, and even Dubai, before shipping prices rose sky-high.
SUPPORT
On going support will be available from both Pat, inventor and owner, and Pat's youngest daughter, Nyomi, who's been the office manager for the past 13-years.
Both Nyomi and Pat are willing & eager to work with new outlets to help them gain confidence & understand all aspects of the business & the product. Both Nyomi & Pat can talk via Skype, Facetime etc.
Pat trained Nyomi to install the Collars, before she started running the office, so she has a strong understanding of the installation methods and boat shapes as well.
POTENTIAL
The Collars have HUGE potential around the world, as there's small boats world-wide! The USA market, in particular, is massive, and they're VERY keen for the Collars!
The need for Licenced outlets overseas to manufacture and provide the Collars locally, worldwide, is massive.
What customers say about the Collars

Patent & Registered Name details
Australian Patent Number #2010201449.

'Boat Collar' is also a registered trading name, both up-to-date with ASIC.
The story behind the logo
The story behind the logo... the surfboard shape with it's long oval shape and central string-line, denotes the incredible control boats now have on waves with a Collar fitted. Speed is increased, and the stability on a wave is phenomenal. Like a pro-surfer has control of their surfboard, the Boat Collars make a boat very receptive to the helmsman where the boat stays under their control at al times, creating lift, stability & safety.

The Licence Agreement allows you to use our logo, trademarks, patent, trade secrets and more...
Brief outline on Agreement;
- Each Agreement contract lasts for 5-years
- Each Agreement is performance based, with an achievable number of sales to be met each month/quarter.
- Each Agreement is limited to advertise in their specified area or region, but is non-exclusive.
- Customers can choose to purchase from whomever they wish, even if they're from another Licensee's area, or from an area without a licensee.
- A small, up-front payment is payable to KBC, followed by a royalty of 5% on each Collar kit sold thereafter, not applied to installation revenue.
- In-depth, hands-on training is to be conducted at KBC's factory in Gympie, Queensland, Australia. Flights, accommodation & food to be paid by licensee. Minimum of 1-week required, but 2-weeks would be better, i.e. less rushed.
- Each 'outlet' is to use our existing foam from our manufacturer, at least to start with. If anyone wishes to source local made, it gives them time to find the right one, and any new foam used must be approved by us first, as they're not all made the same, and our manufacturer has perfected ours brilliantly.
- Each 'outlet' will have their own webpage created by us and linked to the main website, with their contact details available and anything else they'd like to mention or list, e.g. what other services they offer.
- Freedom to use the KBC logo to promote and advertise the product in their region, along with promo-photos.
- Many documents & fitting instructions are provided, and more.
- Permission to link to and use YouTube videos on their own KBC business platforms.
- As well as permission to link to the original website from their own business website, if desired, and boast of a true partnership.
- If your chosen region is large/distant, you can also establish your own stockists, who can store ready-made Collar kits for closer customer collection points, but you're not permitted to create or sell new outlets/sales branches elsewhere. Stockists can help advertise the product and push all sales enquiries to your office.

Asking $45,000 AUD for New Zealand
In 2025, New Zealand's population is approximately 5.31 million. NZ Marine reports there are over 1,540,000 boats in the country. Approx 1 in 3 people have a registered trailer boat, with alloy boats being most popular.
A couple dozen Kapten Boat Collars are already around New Zealand, on the water and being seen by others in action. If you'd like us to contact one of our customers who are near you, let us know, and we can try and arrange a meeting where you can look at their Collars in person.

Asking min $60,000 AUD each for designated USA states
Set states/regions are still being calculated, according to population totals & registered boat numbers - trying to make each package fair & equal. Some packages will vary in size and cost, along with potential!

Asking $150,000 AUD for the United Kingdom
Aluminium boats are becoming more popular in the UK, with many realising the freedom that a small rooftopper/cartopper boat can provide. The colder climate makes many of the Collars benefits desirable, such as reducing spray, stability of course, and level flotation of the boat in case of accident, allows crew to stay inside the boat rather than be exposed to hypothermia in the water.

Asking $60,000 AUD for individual European nations
Each European nation varies regarding size, population, socio-economics and percentage of boat registrations or number of eligible boats. Therefore each nation will be considered differently, and we're open to discussion & possibly including a few nations under the one licence.

Asking $100,000 AUD for South Pacific Islands, incl Indonesia
Though the population of these areas are massive, and the number of boats is very high, the socio-economic value of the area is low, and therefore the percentage of eligible customers are also lower compared to other areas of higher socio-economics.

Asking $60,000 AUD for South Africa
We've had several enquiries from South Africa, but the shipping costs were way too expensive to get the Collars there. The boats however are often Australian built so we know they're perfectly suited to the Collars, and desperately needed! Amazing that our Aussie made Quintrex Boats are found so far away!
